Program philosophy
Fairfield Five Points Preschool promotes an atmosphere of respect, acceptance of all children and their families regardless of ability, age, appearance, belief, class, culture, family composition, gender, race, or sexuality.
We believe that the way children see themselves and feel about themselves influences their ability to learn, just as their potential sense of mastery over learning situations increases their positive self-images. Both attributes are identified as critical to the well-being of adults.
Children learn through play. Play provides children with opportunities to explore, investigate, and practice skills. Children build knowledge through hands-on experience or through the direct manipulation of objects and materials. The emphasis in our program is on process learning. We provide this by offering choices within a framework, facilitating problem solving, redirecting andencouraging independent exploration of the environment. We believe it is important to promote process learning as young children are not skilful users of materials, and they are still trying things out. As well children are interested in "doing" rather than producing a product.
Parents/ guardians are the first and primary caregivers of their young children. The teachers work with the family to offer support where needed. We stand by the statement "It takes a whole village to raise a child"
